The magic beauty tool that depuffs & sculpts the face

Skincare gadgets are gaining more and more popularity thanks to their visible benefits for the skin. Among them is gua sha, a little pebble tool that not only brightens the complexion, contours the face, and softens wrinkles, but also offers a relaxing self-care moment in your beauty regimen.

Used in Chinese medicine for thousands of years, “gua” means “scrape” and “sha” means “sand”, which refers to the sandy dark spots that look like light bruising on the skin after a gua sha body treatment. When used on the face though, there are no spots after the practice, but natural glow.

Gua sha is available in many shapes and materials, like rose quartz or turquoise. All feature softly rounded edges that won’t damage the skin. The design is meant to hug each curvature of the face, in order to improve blood circulation, relax the muscles, and increase the absorption of skincare ingredients.

How to use gua sha?

Before beginning the practice, make sure your face, hand, and tool are clean. Then, place a generous amount of face oil or cream on your face and neck, which will help the tool to glide easily. Hold the tool at a 45-degree angle and apply gentle pressure in upward movements. Repeat each movement 3-5 times before moving to the next area.

Forehead: Divide your forehead into 3 sections and glide the tool outwards in each section.
Brow: Follow the brow bone and move the tool from the inside out.
Undereye: Start in the inner corner of the eye and glide outwards.
Cheek: From the nose to the hairline, follow the contours of the cheekbone in an upward motion.
Jawline: Slide the tool from the center of the chin to the ear.
Neck: Glide the tool from the collarbone towards the jawline.
